Okay, I've been doing some reading and understand what "cavitation erosion" is and how it's caused.
I've done reading on OAT, HOAT, NOAT, (<-ELC's) and the old school "salt" coolants, normal silicate, low silicate, no silicate.... and on and on.
NOW.... What coolant(s) do you guys use/recommend in your OBS rigs. I've been reading on other places that some guys flush, clean and refill with either Ford gold coolant, Shell Rotella ELC, or CAT coolant in the OBS trucks.
I want a coolant to last about two years between replacements, hopefully not needing to fart with test strips or SCA's, and mosty of all not worrying about engine damage. I don't want a raging flamewar of coolant opinions, just need a little advice.
For what its worth: A friend of mine had a 96 PSD F250 for 10 years, the truck was used for oversize load escort (which can include VERY hard driving stop/go), hotshot oilfield loads with gooseneck, and a lot of other highway/city driving chores, he sold it after 500,000 mi due to financial situation. It still ran like new despite only a couple coolant changes with generic "diesel antifreeze", no coolant testing or additives. We never knew about the danger of cavitation.
