00 7.3 turbo on a 96 7.3 whats needed?
My bud wants to put a 00 turbo on his 96. He has the turbo only no pedestal. Just seeing it i would say up pipes and mounting flange round vs square. What else is needed has anyone done this swap?

lots of people have done it, your gonna need the intake y from turbo to heads, up pipes, drivers side manifold iirc, and your gonna have to move or delete the fuel bowl, and with that intake y your gonna need to run an intercooler or a pipe going in a circle back into the other. down pipe may be needed as well, good luck
btw

It's not worth it but driver side exhaust manifold, intake plenum, custom Y or spyder with intercooler, downpipe, uppipes and intake.

The juice is not worth the squeeze, IMO. He won't gain anything by "upgrading" to an SD turbo. Many SD owners put larger exhaust housings and a stock OBS wheel in their turbos... in other words, they try to make the SD turbo more OBS like.
If he can get ALL the parts needed cheap or free and is just bored, I guess he could try it but I wouldn't bother personally. |

i agree. if hes going to upgrade turbos, get a D66 for the OBS powerstroke. its larger than a SD turbo and it will bolt right in.

Thanks Guys

if he swaps it all over to sd he has more options for turbos

Only one, the 38r.
There is nothing to be gained performance wise by going to the SD turbo. It will spool quicker in stock form because of the smaller exhaust housing, but that's it. |
