cold start smoke problem?

just cold started the truck this morning, it wasnt plugged and its snowing this morning but its probably between 20 and 30 degrees, so not too cold. i let the glow plugs go for probably about 30 seconds, then cranked and she fired right up no problem, but with a big puff of black smoke when it fired and while it was idling after it started instread of the normal white smoke, it hazed out black smoke . why is it doing that? am i about to have a problem? TIA!

Black smoke is usually one of two things, excess oil burning off, or excess fuel.

Maybe you have an injector sticking open? I would think cold start though it would still just white smoke with fuel as the cylinder temps are too low to properly combust the fuel. Im not sure.

Does the truck only smoke black from a cold start? Or does it do the same if you get it up to operating temperature, shut it down and then re-start?
Any way you could post up a video?

i dont know about a video, it only blows black at startup if its cold, it seems to always do that but it only hazed that one morning. if we get anbother really cold morning im sure itll do it again, other than that at operating temp it will smoke when i rev it and puff a little at higher speeds when i get on it
