start up question

when i start up my truck in the mornings before school, lately i have noticed alot of white smoke and a rough idle. i let it idle for a little bit before i take off but it is still a little rough and it has white smoke until i reach the end of the driveway which is about 50 feet long. is white smoke normal when you start your truck in the morning because when i took off it turned to white.
thanks,
Michael

Do you have a chip or tuner on the truck?

white smoke with a cold diesel engine is normal, provided it goes away quickly (like you said "reach the end of the driveway") If you had white smoke on other occasions, I'd be worried about a coolant leak (head gasket)

It could be water in the fuel. It looks like you live in the snow.

Yeah its just unburnt fuel. The reason I asked if you had a tuner or chip is you would be dumping more fuel into the motor if that was the case.

yeah it has a chip in it.. and yes the white smoke goes away fairly quick and when i get on it its all black... i do not smell coolant and im pretty sure i dont have a leak.. thanks for the replys sounds like i have nothing to worry about... on another note, i got my intake installed on saturday and i love it!! more boost and it feels like my truck is a little more snappy. and when i get the rpms up i can really hear the turbo, it screams!!

HaHaHa yeah I felt the same way with my truck! I was bumming when it would blow white smoke for a minute or two in the cold mornings thinking I did somthing wrong when modding my truck or somthing was going bad. Sounds like your good to go just unburnt fuel
