Junk-Yard Gold?
Well, took a cruise through my local junk-yard looking for injector cores (to get rebuilt). Found a wrecked (t-boned by a semi, and tore the rear half of the truck almost completely off) F250 thats the same year, drive-train, and even has the same 4" lift as my rig. Lifted the hood, and was a dissapointed to see almost all the good stuff had been stripped off. Injectors, turbo, PCM, and even HPOP. Crawled under the truck to see if there was anything else worth taking. This is where it gets interesting...
Staring back at me is a complete Dana 60 conversion. All the bits and pieces. Everything. I crawl out from under the truck and ask the attendant how much for the entire front end. He heads back to the front desk to look it up in his books and after a few minutes comes back out with a quote of $450 for the *DANA 50*. What do you guys think the chances are I'd make it off the lot before they realize I've just pulled a complete solid axle swap out from under their noses? |

Going back tomorrow or Wednesday once I get the rear axle seals replaced on my truck. I've got no way of getting it home until then.

I'm betting it will be. This place doesn't do much business when it comes to fullsized trucks...especially not diesels. Had a friend of mine walk off the lot with 8 injectors, having paid the price for 8 used distributors (apparently the guy behind the register had never seen a diesel injector before). I think it cost him $12 for all 8.

Done deal.
Didn't want to wait and fix my truck, so I rented a P.O.S. flatbed dodge from the hardware store. Cost me $15 for the first hour, and $70 for the second plus gas, but I'd say a solid axle is worth $550. Plus i'm pretty sure I killed a u-joint power braking on my way out there. Gotta love a one tire fire |

Lucky you, I'd just about give my left nut for a find like that.
