Help evaluate my rig - next steps?

Ive had this 96 for about 6 months and am really enjoying it. I got it with 190K on the ticker in OK shape from a small time dealer - I don't know a lot about its history, but it had a Colorado title. It has a neat Ford high idle module with digital tach that sits on the floor and had a down pipe and exhaust brake installed when I got it. It is otherwise stock to my knowledge. No major leaks or mechanical issues besides worn synchros in the tranny that allow a grind into 4th if you aren't smooth with it. The suspension rides ridiculously rough.

I really cleaned it up and installed a T/S performance 6 pos chip with the standard stock, +50, +75, +100, +140'extreme', & high idle tunes purchased from alligator performance. I currently have a short straight pipe that exits through a turnout just behind the passenger door under the truck - I've got some stainless MBRP garage parts on the way to make a nice side exit exhaust right in front of the passenger side rear wheel.

The truck runs really well, idles smoother at some times than others... Has that common light smoke at startup that is really noxious. When winding it out on the freeway, I see 15psi pretty quickly and an eventual 19-20psi indicated max.

With the chip in it's higher positions, the truck tends to have some hesitation on hard acceleration before high revs. I expect this is because the fuel system isn't able to accommodate such a heavy tune as it should.

I'm interested in freshening up the truck, maybe grabbing a healthy hpop/injector combo that could handle the chip tunes and remedy the smoke on startup.

If anyone has some good feedback for me on combos that could work well for me or on maintenance tips to check out on this old truck, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks!

Thanks man! It had a little above the wheel well on the rear passenger side - had it filled and blended in - also a little bit on the corner of the cab.

I REALLY spent a long time cleaning. It had a small chip in the windshield that spidercracked right after I got it, so replaced it with ford glass. It was a good opportunity to really clean out the dash and channels.

I threw on those Prograde Silent Armor tires a while back and just did the agricover Limited soft cover and the ventvisors/bugflector too.

Love those OBS looks...

I have down pipe, intake, and tunes from Jody and I see close to 30psi of boost and no hesitation with stock hpop, fuel pump, and injectors. I think it's all these other tuners running a generic tune and not working them out spotless. Just my .02

I think your next step should be getting custom tunes loaded on that ts chip. You will be amazed at the runability difference and you can always have the tuner tweak with the tunes afterwards if you want any changes made.
