Steering gear has some play

Has anyone adjusted the lash in their steering gear? I would like to try tightening mine up, but im not sure how much to adjust.

I know some guys have done it. 1/4 to 1/2 turn at the most.

I turned mine down untill the steeing was stiff and backed off a half turn. Work ok.
