Well, as some of you read (
The beginning of the end) from my other post, about a month ago, I had trannie slippage.
Well, the shop told me that everything looked great inside, no residue, or debris and the clutches looked good. Then they changed the fluid and filter.
This weekend while I was towing the 5er (14,000lbs) back to Heber, Az my trannie temp went up to 250 by the first hill that I hit. Well, at that point I said if I was going to blow it, I might as well do it good. So I just kept going.
Oh and the truck has 126,000 miles on it, and I've never seen over 210* while pulling until recently. Now with out pulling on the way home the temp ran at 210* about 30* above normal.
I got all the way there, about 119 miles from my house, most of it up hill. And no slippage, actually everything felt good, just high temps. When I checked the fluid, it was brownish and smelled burnt. The rest of the weekend, everything was fine.
Well, I think maybe it is the tourque converter. But I am going with a complete rebuild. Gunna cost me anywhere from $2,500 to $3,500. That way there are no worries. And I can go to bigger injectors.
Oh, and the wife's birthday was this weekend, And she pulled rank. That is why I went to the mountains and not DITD.
