Fuel gauge going crazy on the rear tank!
A few days ago I was running off of my rear tank and I looked down and my fuel gauge was going up. Then it went back down to where it should have been (half tank mark) then went below it to about a quarter, then all the way back up to full again. If I watched it close it contantly twitched and would randomly jump around all over the place. I filled up since I wasnt sure what was going on and it stopped jumping around until I got down to a half a tank then it started all over again. I filled up a third time and again it stopped. I havent got to a half a tank yet but i suspect it will start doing it again. any ideas what is going on. Thanks

Well since it only does it on the one tank. I would think it is not the gauge cluster in the dash. Sounds to me like a sending unit problem with that one tank. You will have to drop the tank down. Or raise the bed up to work on the sending unit. Which ever you would like to do is up to.
If it did it all the time no matter how much fuel was in the tank then I would say it is shorted out. But since it does it 1/2 tank or less then it is an internal problem inside the tank with the sending unit. |
