Open to LSD swap?

What I'm wondering is if its possible to just pull the rear axle diff cover and pull the gears out and swap them into my Open diff axle? I'm not sure whether it is or not with solid axles, I've done it on independent suspension cars in the past

Yes you can do that. Just make sure you swap both the ring and pinion and measure the backlash and run a pattern test before you disassemble. If you don't get the gears back where they were in the old axle then your gears will wear out pre-maturely.
