1995 Ford Powerstroke Turbo Replacement

How hard is it to replace a Turbo on a 1995 Ford Powerstroke? A mechanic told me mine was leaking oil and needed replaced. Just didn't want to spend $560 on labor if it is something that I could possibly do.

Good question. Honestly, I dont know! If your fairly into doing things yourself, I'm sure you could do it. I've seen the things installed before and it doesnt look to hard. I'm going to get a new Banks Wastegated turbo for my truck shortly, and I totally plan on installing it myself.

I replaced mine with aBanks Quick turbo and I have the old one if you need it.
Let me know. I didn't do the replacing but the mechanic said the bolts on the unit were tough to remove.

Turbo replacement

Well, I dont have the same year that you have, but when the Turbo on my 99 F350 went out, we did the replacment ourselves. Other than being sortof a pain to get to, everything else was very self explanitory and somewhat simple. Good luck!

Thumbs up Turbo Replacement

It all depends on your style of turbo. If it is a intercooler model. you will be cursing Ford. If it is a conventional turbo, loosen the bands on the suction, discharge and feet on the turbo. Be sure to mark the linkage with a sharpie pen first. It will take about 1-2 hours on a cold engine while drinking some beer.

Hey KSU cowboy I was curious about that myself. I found an older non intercooled PSD sitting on a pallet at my friend's career center. We were working on cars this particular weekend, and I didn't have anything to do so I took the turbo off. I can tell you it's pretty easy to do with the engine out, just a little hard to get to a few bolts. Took me about 40 minutes to take it off. But if it was with the engine out, man...I'm sure it's doable but I am betting it would take a few hours. It's definitely not worth paying almost 600 bucks to have someone else do.

Well what kind of whistle are you looking for......do you mean when it whines when making boost as you accelerate, or the whistle you hear through your exhaust?
