smoke out of oil filler tube?
I am a new member, I have a 99Ford F-350 7.3. Someone told me that if i have smoke coming out of my oil filler tube, to sell the truck because its getting ready to blow up. Others have told me its perfectly normal. There is not a large amount of smoke, just puffs a little bit. Any help would be appreciatted. Thanks Matt

I read a discussion on here awhile ago, very little smoke is ok/normal it was compared to a cigarette. Anything more COULD be blow-by, but it shouldn't exceed a lit cig. I'm sure someone will be along in the morning that knows more details

Honestly, I've never seen a diesel that doesn't do this some. Almost all used (read broken in) diesels have some blow-by due to the high compression. Heck, I had an old Chevy 6.2 (non-turbo) that smoked more out the dip stick than it did the exhaust under WOT (remember, no turbo). It was still running great when I sold it with 178k miles on it.
As long as your power is reasonable and you're not seeing oil in funny places I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Ryan |
