after doing a lot of reseach and hard thinking i decided to do the 05 axle swap into my OBS. didnt want to do a dana 60 due to i like to do thing different then everyone has done. and because i was given a set of 18" lariat rims that i thing would look awesome on my 97 and garrett confermed that 4 me.

just picked up the rolling chassis, picked it up in georgia. haha it was a long way but an awesome trip. stoped at a few cool bars -THE BLIND HORSE SALOON- was awesome
Image

removing my bed to make things easier on me and so i can paint everything up with some POR 15 (i think thats what im gonna use). will also make it easier to make my exhaust!
Image

got all the rivits out and removed the axle and also got everything else out
Image

got the 05 rolled underneith and the front hangers bolted up. minus the center bolt hole which im gonna borrow A 5/8" reamer since the alignment was only a liitle bit off. the top bolts were a direct match and the bottom two were completely new holes. i decided to use my superduty hangers due to the fact my OBS ones needed to be replaced anyway
Image

just another shot, backround- 87 ranger2.9 v6 5 speed and 1970 MONTE CARLO, my once dream car untill babys were brought into this world
Image

and the process continues..... has anyone mounted a SD front tank in an OBS, was lookin at the tank out of the donor truck and was wondering? i know the fill tubes are different, justa thought for more fuel to hold.

2k and after i bought it i found one for 1600... go figure. they wanted 2k an axle up may way plus the hangers plus the springs so i saved a bunch of money

Where at? what you going to do with your old stuff?

i got quoted $2900 at the yard for rolling frame, with factory 20's with tires in oklahoma, waiting on the gas money and somewhere to put it, my yard here is way to small

got some more progress done one the swap! got the orginal holes welded up and ground flat to make a new surface for the new superduty hangers, they were just slightly off and didnt want to weaken the bolt holes.
Image

got my new brake lines run, didnt need to be replaced but i had the tanks out, needed a different fiting to go to the superduty brake line, and i replaced it with a nickle-copper tubbing gurenteed never to rust for the life of the vehicle. mabe by a company called S.U.R.&R. and is it so easy to bend and flairs like butter! got everything blead out and works great!
Image

Got my emergency brake cables connected together and operational, i like the OBS setup better. this is just weird how it works
Image

My adaptor univeral finally came after calling all over the united states to find someone who had it in stock. The company has a 2 month backorder on it  figured i would just replace the rest of them with greaseable spicers
Image

Got the driveshaft in, what a PITA. everything was froze in and almost half of the spring clips broke in half to were i had to cut the univeral out with a grinder and push the universals to the center. I wish i had a torch!
Image

things are comming together and should be able to take her down the road this weekend! see how the 3.73 gears work out and check for any vibrations

i used both superduty e-brake cables. moved the hanger to the front so it is aprox 17 inches from the center bolt of the spring hanger because thats what it was in the superduty frame. and then only used the bottom hole. then i just used two cable clamps to hold the two different cables together untill i can find a crimp that will hold the pressure but it works for now.
GOT A MAJOR QUESTION? after doin the swap in the rear i removed the front driveshaft so i cant bind the 4.10s to the 3.73s and my spedo dont work at all and once i start down the road it shifts HARD and then the OD light starts flashing. tried to pull trouble coads but none found? WTF? is it cause of the two different gears? i never touched anything infront of the bed besides disconnecting the batteries to do some light welding. any ideas? HELP!!!

VSS BACK UP..... ure past me? the sensor in the top of the rear? Yes i did hook that up but that gave me an ABS code

if the one on top of the rear is the speed and distance sensor i used the one that was in the SD rear. do i need one out of a OBS. might have to go buy one if need be. i broke the one out of the OBS rear trying to remove it

thanks..... i started to think bout it when u said the vss. i thought that was an ABS sensor but i guss not. gona pick up one tomorrow morning first thing and take it dack down the road with no bed or tail lights. god i love the country haha and the sad part is i will fit right in with everyone else.

first i didnt have it connected at all but the i just used 2 inline squeze connectors on the wires themselves just to see if it fixed the problem, should of known better. i think i was just excited to get her goin down the road for the first time

and yes i left the stock cable comming down from the peddle in

got the new shock mounts welded on the axle and put a slight bend on them to match the OBS shock angle. put a few stich weld on the sppring hangers and down to my buddies house i went so start on the front axle. so i can have a level concete surface

Good luck man! You better be at Carlisle LOL

Word of advice, dont set the truck down without the track bar. Its not exactly safe, or stable. A stiff breeze will blow the thing over.

We used a ratchet strap to hold it all together while we mocked the track bar.
