Speedometer / Odometer dosn't work,

I recently bought a 94 F350 5.8L 5 speed dump truck, the speedometer doesn't work, neither does the dome light, which i know share a fuse, but the fuse is good, all the other gauges work but the odometer dosen't show and the speedo doesn't move. Does anyone have any ideas?

VSS in the pumpkin, or the wiring to it is my first guess. about $26 at Ford.

EDIT: not sure on the dome light... does your odo work?

tried changing the speedo out? or pulling the whole thing and looking at it from the back? or the vss sensor? not sure as to why the dome would be there too tho, i remember the wire to the vss burned out on my exhaust on my 95 f-150 5.8L auto and it would shift my abs light came on and my speedo/odometer cut off


electical tape mod fixed that, been working for about 4 years like that now, nothing but electrical tape and re routing

No speedo or odometer would tell me the PSOM is tits up. The dome light might just be a bad bulb. Can you swap gauge clusters with a known good unit?

92-93 swap only, 94-95 swap only, and 96-97 swap only i assume, i know on the f-150 its 96 only, but 96-97 should swap out tho, but you want to use only 94-95 and since its gas, only use a gas odometer not a diesel, im not sure if those are interchangeable, i know the tach is obviously different, if it works by all means try it though

The odometer doesn't work, its blank. i think i have a spare vss, so ill try that first.

check the wires to the VSS as well, mine burned off and the tranny wouldnt shift rite, yours is stick so its kind of different. but good luck alot of times you can just clean the vss and it works fine though

You can swap them all out with each other, but the indicator lights won't work correctly unless you stick to the guidelines you posted. For testing purposes it doesn't make a difference.

If the odo is blank don't waste your time with the VSS. Your PSOM is dead.
