Bad batteries or alternator?

Today I noticed that my voltage meter was staying on the low side of "normal". It has always been low when I first start up and then go staright down in the middle or a little towards the higher end of "Normal." At some times throughout driving today it would climb back up and then go down again. The battery light has not come on at all and I do not know how old the batteries are because I just got the truck a few months ago. Has anyone had a similar problem?

what is the voltage when the gauge is down and when its up. Your alternator can be on its way out.should have 13.5 to 14 volts when charging.

I've run into odd things on mine causing your problem like check the wire going to the alternator first...it was hanging by a thread to the end lug that bolts onto the alt on mine and didn't realize it until I bought a new alt. Good luck with it.

x2, check the wires plugging into your alt first.
