E4OD tranny not shifting correctly
I have a '96 Ford with an E4OD tran, 7.3L PS.
The truck has sat for a couple of years. Prior to that everything worked fine. During that time the batteries went totally dead. I replaced them with new ones and had the tanks professionally cleaned and re fueled. Problem At first it would not go into OD. Then it got progressively worse and only would shift twice. I noticed that it was shifting harder too. I am wondering what the problem could be. Could the truck sitting with totally dead batteries done something to the shifting control module? Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!! |

![]() could be the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) in the rear gear. or a blow fuse in the dash. check those first. after that i would say take it to a trusted tranny guy. |

OK, the truck is in the shop and they say the computer is bad and they gave it to me. Come to find out they handed me the ECU. Does the ECU affect how the transmission shifts in any way?
Elec Cont Unit (ECU); 8-445 (7.3L, diesel), eng cont, AT, low emis, ID F6TF-12A650-AXE Wouldn't the TCU have total control over the transmission? |

Check your brake lights, including high mount. They are in a relay that will effect your tranny. Torque converter will not lock up and will shift very hard (firm).
