pilot injection 7.3
I was wondering if some one has created a way to use pilot injection on a 7.3.. where the injectors give a tiny amount of fuel on the compression stroke to create a pilot light in the cylinder essentially so when the main injection occurs it is almost silent, like the new common rail systems do. I love the sound of the 7.3 but I was just thinking about this the other day while turning my truck off in the drive thru, because if some one could write a tune for it i would love one. I just don't know if the idm or the injector solenoid could respond fast enough to preform the task... any thoughts?

most tuners offer a drive through position on their chips and thats about as close as it gets.

Pilot injection AKA "split shot" is used on 99-03 7.3's
Internal components are different than the single shot injector, allowing a pause in the injection cycle. By comparison, the split shot truck will be quieter than the single shot truck. Common rail involves a bit more than just pilot injection. Common rail systems have higher fuel injection pressure, and can inject several doses of fuel in a single combustion event. The HUEI system was never designed for such a task. |
