Vacuum pump pully help
Just changed out my vacuum pump for the fourth time. This past one actually lasted longer than the other two. My way of pressing the pully back on is to take a 2x4 and drill with a butterfly bit a 1 1/4 hole about 3/4 of the way into the 2x4. Place that on the back of the pump, then place a large c clamp on the pully with the other end of the clamp over the 2x4 directly over the hole and in line to press the pully on straight. That keeps you from crushin the drain bolt into the bearing cap. I press the pully on untill the bearing cap moves just a little bit. Too much and the cap and the bearings fall out. I never get the pully on as far as it seems like it needs to go. The belt is just barely covering the pully. Now the funky part. Evertime, after running it for a while the pully pulls in closer to the pump to where eventually the belt is right in the middle of the pully. Crap I'm tired of typing. Does it sound like I'm installing this thing correctly or does the power stroke just eat vacuum pumps. But I do have 280,000 miles on it.
