ZF5 Tranny problems. Reverse is out??

Hey anyone messed with a ZF5 manual OBS tranny??

My reverse doesnt work it grinds when i put it in...
Im hoping the Synchro's aren't bad

WOuld the slack in the clutch pedal be the PROblem??

and my truck starts without having to push the clutch in...is this normal??

thanks for any help guys...This is a big prob on the "little" truck

so double post huh.......



rebuild the trans. syncros are out for reverse.

check bushings on the pedel.

the wiring for the cluch has been hotwired so the pedel doesnt need to be pressed.

Ahh alright.. I was hoping i didnt have to rebuild it




I wanted the problem resolved, do you know where a rebuild kit is?

Do yourself a favor and go to teh bone yeard and ask to see their cores. When my syncros and shaft went out i went to the bone yard and picked up a good core for $100 and rebuilt mine. It was still going strong 10 years later. The core i grabed was just a cracked case everything was perfect inside

Clutch may not be fully releasing. If the truck isn't moving and you drop it into reverse there shouldn't be any grinding REGARDLESS OF THE CONDITION OF THE SYNCROS.

Two checks 1) hold the brake and push the clutch if the brake moves your bushings are out 2) theres a bushing on the clutch master rod under the dash that everyone forgets about that fails too. A new pedal assembly is 155 at ford thats the route i took when i got my truck. The syncros got out an reverse alot because people dont come to a complete stop before they put it in reverse which kills them. I need 2nd, 3rd and R syncros and gears I've had it apart before for bad bearings but am building a stronger one using ZFS performance parts outta hamburg germany.....not cheap:p

Replaced the Bushimgs already, And haven't figured out how to properly fix the Rod BUSHING (mod)

I still need help on this guys, If you wanna see THis project truck go any further...THe clutch needs to be fixed
