Please I need advice

I am confused as to which coolant is best for my truck? I read alot about the Cat ELC collant and decided to use it. After filling up my truck and replacing the hoses i talked to a mechanic buddy of mine and he advised me that the CAT coolant wasnt designed to run in these trucks. He advised it was great coolant just that these trucks were designed to operate on silicant based coolant. As CAT is silicant free, i dont want to ruin an engine or damage seals in my engine. I would love to hear from people who have been running CAT ELC in their trucks. I really hate this cause that coolant was expensive just to be thrown away if its not gonna work! Please any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Navistar didn't give the okay to ELC untill 99.5.

That being said, I know there are guys on here running it in their OBS/E99 rigs. I'm sure someone will chime in here and give more insight.

Theres all kinds of threads on here about it in the 7.3 From what I've read, nobody has reported any major problems. Heres a link Diesel Power magazine installs ELC Coolant in 97 Powerstroke?? pic included I would just run it and be happy.

and btw, the silicants clog everything up..thats why ppl go through oil coolers in a 6.0 as often as they fill the tank with fuel!

The new red coolant is suppose to be good also. The hotter the temp the darker the red gets. Don`t know much about the Cat coolant. I just stay with what I know.

ELC is red. There is something new called Ultra ELC made by Rotella (shell). Maybe that's what you're talking about. No one can seem to get it in any smaller than a 55 gallon drum though..too new i guess
