magnetic filter.

My truck had a magnetic filter in the bottom tranny line. I needed to replace the lines, so I replaced them and removed the filter. Is that magnetic filter needed and what is the purpose of it?

It is common to place an in-line filter in the cooler line when the transmission is replaced. The idea is that it will catch debris and crap that got pushed into the cooler and hopefully prevent it from wrecking the new transmission.
