Electrical or mechanical?

Here's the problem: '95 PSD with a nearly new trans will not engage into any gear, yet when moving the shifter back to Park from any gear there is a really bad rattling/vibration. Anybody seen this orhave any thoughts? Btw this truck has been sitting for over a year in my Dad's shop till I bought it off him and fixed the busted fuel pump and oil cooler, idk if that would have any effect on this . Thanks

sounds mechanical to me.....you coul have someone go down and watch the linkage at the trans as you shift.>>>>>brian

just checked the linkage, looks fine. It shifts thru all gears fine with the truck off, but its not engaging. It worked fine before it went into the shop, so i'm really confused
