need battery advice - no not a repeat 'whos better' thread
so i have two batts that are less than a year old and they are toast. if i wait 15 or so seconds for glows before i crank i can only crank for a few seconds. normally i dont even have to crank that long. they are just toast. i have to charge them all the time to start. it gets worse in the cold. yes the alternator is fine. took them to the store where i bought them, they test as good, but they are putting in the load/charger. they dont know what kind of load it puts on them, but im assuming its a gasser style load so they will end up passing.
my question is, since they are truthfully toast - for a diesel anyway, is there anything i can do to them to make them show up bad on a tester? feels wrong doing that as im an honest person, but i also feel this is justified. that being said who has expirience with walmart customer service? lol yes they are wally batteries, but the price was all i could do at the time. if i can get these replaced then ill get some real batteries in the spring. thanks for the help all... |

nope, starter is a DB less than year old. all is well though. much to my surprise they replaced both batts under warranty.
one passed the test and the other failed. i wanted both replaced for obvious reasons, and the battery tester showed a 200+ amp difference between the one that passed at 779cca's and a new one off the shelf. (850cca's). the sales accociate would not repalce both, so i called for a manager thinkin, ohhh here we go... but when he heard me say "diesel" he told her yep, on diesels we repalce both of one fails. i was pleasently shocked to hear this from a wally world automotive manager. thankfully he knew a bit about diesels. put them in yesterday, broke a bolt and currently using vice grips but it fired up like a dream at 14*f this morning. thanks for taking a look at the thread though. i got a PM that may become useful in the future. |

I had Wally World batteries in my SD and never had a problem with them. They were about 1.5 years old IIRC when I sold the truck. At the time they were $75 a piece and info on the forums said they were just as good as anything out there. Glad to hear they took care of you on the warranty!

Yea , there are only a few different battery manufacturers . I can't recall who makes them for who anymore but I once found a thread that had them all broken down by manufacturer .
