Dana 50 Rebuild
im going to be rebuilding my front axle and i called the parts store and they tried telling me that there is only 1 bearing and seal per side. however when i talked to my buddy he was telling me that there should be a total of 4 bearings and 6 seals. does that sound right for a dana 50? and no im not goin to get a dana 60. i know its a better axle but i dont have another $1000 just to buy the axle. so i dont need to here about that. thanks

Two wheel bearings per side, and one seal per side.
The axle housing (pumpkin) has two seals in it total. So, 4 bearings, 4 seals... I THINK. What exactly are you rebuilding? The hubs, the differential? the whole thing? |

If it is the center diff they are correct, there is a bearing on each side of the carrier and a seal on each side. Once you move to the wheel bearings you have two bearings and a seal on each side. You also have a spindle bearing and seal on the back side of the sprindle.
Costs can add up quickly depending on exactly what you are doing. My Dana 50 was shot with only 110k easy miles. The center support bushings were absolutely horrible as were the spring bushings. |
