94 F250 IDI, Powerstroke?

I am looking at a 94 F250 that has 200,000 miles on it. I'm not sure of really anyother info. The guy only told me it was a turbo. I asked him if it was a Powerstroke and he said it was International. That is the only info I have. Are these reliable trucks? How much would be normal maintnence? Thanks. I will provide more info as I get it.

IDI is a naturally aspirated diesel (non turbo) i believe they made it untill 94. Powerstrokes are made by international, but the IDI is NOT a powerstroke engine. The early 7.3L turbo is a reliable motor but be weary of oil leaks!!!

Okay thanks. So just look for leaks and if there are none, then it is generaly a good engine?

Not all the time. But I know of a few people with oil leaks on those motors that they just COULD NOT FIND. generally however, the 7.3 is a seemingly bullet proof motor.

There is a thread on here with what to look for when buying a used 7.3, let me try to find a link or I'm sure someone will chime in.

Yes they did. It didnt last long, and for good reason lol. you dont see many of them, but theres one down the road from me. Instead of a powerstroke badge his just has a "turbo" badge

Learn something new every day! what years was this? I was under the impression it was IDI non turbo untill 93 then in 94 it became the powerstroke. Didnt know they threw that little jewel in there.

To the OP, if this is the truck your looking at, i would either hold out or save up for a powerstroke.

it wasnt until the very last few months of 94 that they released the powerstroke. Not positive exactly when the IDI turbo was available though

definitly agree on saving for a powerstroke IMO. Not that the IDI is a bad motor, my buddy has one with around 420,000 on it and he beats the piss out of it lol. But its just gutless with horrible mileage. No room for growth concerning aftermarket which blows. Just depends on what your looking for i guess.
