My first oil and fuel filter change what a mess!
I just bought a 96 F250 and decided to change the oil and fuel filter cause I wasnt sure when the last guy did it. The oil change went fine but when I put the new o ring and fuel filter lid and started the truck diesel flew everwhere. I tightened and retightened that lid 3 times and still would not seal. So I put the old lid and o ring back in with the new filter and it was fine. What did I do wrong and what is the best thing to clean my diesel soaked engine with. Thanks

Is the o ring beveled? As in one side is flat and one side is a V shape? The flat side goes down on the bowl. The V goes up, pointing to the lid.

Yes that is how the o ring was, I installed it flat side down beveled up. Next time I'll get my filter from ford instead of autozone.
