97 F250hd questions??

I am looking at buying a friends 97 f250 xcab 4x4 with an e4OD auto. the truck has a 4 inch straight pipe other than that completely stock. the truck has 145,000 miles and it just seems gutless. I have pulled many trailers with it like a 3 horse trailer and i think my 05 5.4 triton will outpull it. Is every auto e4Od this way? or what can i do to fix it if i do buy it?

Does it have a 7.3? If it had guages you may find it isn't getting much boost..leak possibly. Cat could be cloged etc. Add guages, chip, intake and a exhaust system and should pull fine. If I can help please PM me.

Yea It gets proper maintence the guy owns a garage and never runs it hard but the turbo sounds fine and he says its fine but the only thing perfmorance wise that he has done to it is the straight pipe.. He says he just isn't into all of the perfomance diesel stuff he would rather it be stock

Even an entirely stock 7.3 should outpull a 5.4. My friends stock 7.3 will easily outshine my brothers 5.4
