Blocking wastegate...?

So my buddy came over to my house today in his Dodge (He drives a '98 24-valve) to show me that he had blocked his wastegate to build more boost.

I actually thought I could tell a difference in power and acceleration, although it may have just been me.

But that got me thinking, can we block the wastegate on these old 7.3's? Or is it just a bad idea? Any input or thoughts?

no wastegates on these turbos. the newer 7.3 have wastegates
