Compatibility Question

I have owned my 1997 F-250 XLT Extended Cab 7.3 automatic since day one and I now have 407k on her. I had a chip installed in 2000 and the exhaust gutted and did a DIY intake at the same time. I just bought another 1997 but its a F-350 single wheel XL 7.3 automatic four door. I need to know if the chip from the old truck is compatible with the new one. I only know that it is a piggyback chip installed into the ECM but I do not know brand or stats. The part number for the ECM thru ford for the two trucks is different, searched by VIN number. I also need to know how difficult it is to install this exhaust system. Click

The chip should work just fine in the new rig. The hardest part of installing that exhaust will be clearancing the firewall for the down pipe- either use a porta power or a 2x4, big pry bar, or something along those lines to bend the firewall in so the down pipe will fit.

Thanks a bunch for the info. Could I inquire as to what the concensus is for how much HP one can add to a stock setup i.e. stock fuel system, injectors, turbo, and so on. I have heard around 80HP but I would like to know who offers a plug in chip that yields the most Milage, least smoke, best tranny tune regarding life extension, and HP.

custom tunes are all about the same, differences here and there but nothing major to my knowledge. TW, PHP. etc, etc. are all popular here. If you have the TS style chip you can get yours reprogrammed, unless you getting a second chiop for the second truck. i hear good things about mileage tunes, espicially Tony's, provided you keep your foot out of the boost.

80HP is a common number on stock OBS components.

can the stock fuel system, turbo, and injectors along with 3" DP tp 4" exhaust and DYI intake handle TW's extreme setting est. +125HP?

most cases no. i have seen a lot of ads that say 120 top with the OBS, and many more say that 80 is about the max youll get with stock injectors. anything over 100 seems rare.

You can run it in a 120 tune, but you won't be getting the full benefit of what the tune has to offer on stock injectors. Much above anybody's 80 tunes and the stock injectors are maxed out.

You will never see more than 50HP with stock inj's with any tune or mod unless you get larger inj's. Stage 1's can get you 350HP+- at the rear wheels with intake, exhaust, HPOP. and good tunes.
