I've got a neighbor with a 1999 F250 Supercab Long Bed 2WD (fleet truck) with 113,XXX miles for $9000. It looks show room new. Point is....the 1996 could be worth every penny he's asking. Drive it and have someone like a mechanic look it over for you.

if its a 4X4 then is it a 250 or 350? if it a 250 with the Twin eye beam then that can give you a little trouble some times. the bushing wear out and your wheels sit funny and wear bad. but they are pretty solid trucks, zf5 is very tough. does it have any rust? check filters and oil and test driver it. 172k is nothing. plus, the OBS truck are easier to work on compared to the new body style 7.3. good luck
