7.3 Strokers

Hey guys I noticed that my 7.3 knocks hard when its cold and then it knocks not quite as hard when it warms up. I have heard this is typical of old 7.3's. I know diesels are supposed to be really clattery and clanky, but why is it that these old 7.3's knock so much?

Single shot injectors throw one squirt of fuel rather then the newer 7.3s and 6.0s which fire two shots. Your knocking could be caused by leaky injectors do you have new ones?

The IDIs were lould and then the DIT from 94.5-97 were lould because of the single shot of fuel in 99 they changed to split shots to help with emissions and noise

Mines a DI and its pretty loud. it knocks terrible when its cold and then after that it just barely knocks as it idles. like i said before i've been told its how the detonate, and from what you've said i'm gathering that it is normal for them to knock. most of the newer 7.3's and 6.0's i've heard knocking. is this normal?

It shouldnt nock that lould post up a video. When a diesel knocks really lould its sometimes due to air in the fuel system.
