96 Powerstroke

Hello, I just bought my first Powerstroke, its a 96 crew cab 4x4, 110,000 miles one owner, truck is in great shape for a 100k+.
My question is how much horsepower will my stock tranny hold, previous owner said only problem with truck was the tranny, as it was replaced at 80,000 miles.

I have heard that it will hold all that the stock injectors can handle. So if you aren't going crazy and just stick with exhaust, intake, and a performance chip, you should be okay. Anybody with more experience got anything to add. That is what I have, and I don't have any tranny problems with 206K miles.

i have a 96er also. no tranny problems as of yet at 126K. i haul very little if any and at least 2/3's of my miles are freeway. my probs have been with the engine. fuel pump went out 2 years ago. an electric harness under valve cover went out a year ago. otherwise just routine BS to deal with.

What about a CPS?
Friend is a salesman at local dealership, says I need to carry a spare?

the cps has been known to die with little or no warning. the cps is the only way your rig's computer knows the engine is even spinning.

My transmission guy installed a shift kit. cost about sixty dollars additional when he changed the fluid and filter. Tighter shifting and it seems to be able to put up with me and my driving.
