I Want Black Smoke

Hey Guys, I have a 1997 PSD with 299,750 miles. It's bone stock and doesn't blow any black smoke....ever. I understand that this is a good thing and that black smoke is mainly unburnt diesel, but I really want some black smoke now and again. I've heard you can adjust the waste gate or something under the hood to allow more gas. Maybe just remove the cat? I am scared to mod this truck because of high miles, just looking for some smoke. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated...
-Scott

these model year trucks dont have wastegateson them so you cant do that. a cat nock out would be a good idea anyways it wont give you more smoke tho but it will make that turbo whistle at you more. if you want smok just get in the summit or jegs book and get an EDGE evo programmer and you should be blowin smoke in about 5 minutes flat. just be carefull how many mods you do cuz that flatened downpipe on our OBS trucks makes those egt's go sky high if your not careful. if you wat alot of smoke then injectors would be a most have... look in my garage and see wat all i got done to my truck in fuel delivery. i can make cars behind me disappear in brod daylight in a cloud of my ol dirty diesel smoke!!!

Thanks for your quick answers, it sounds like I need a chip. However, I am very worried about blowing my tranny out of its case! It's got darn near 300,000 miles! Should I be worried? By the way, I LOVE your 97 BLACK truck, I wish mine was black or red....i'm stuck with white...

thanx man i appreciate it... as for the tranny mine has almost 190000 on it and i pull the sled with it. but i do have an aftermarket torque converter and a shift kit but other than that its stock and itll definatly still break those 36's loose when it hits 2nd gear . you should be alright for a while with a programmer long as you dont pull anything with it in race or extreme. but with 300k its time for a rebuild anyways... thats how i would look at it

the tranny shouldn't give you any trouble as long as you don't add more then an extra 90hp to 100hp if you go over that i would recommend a better torque converter and a tranny upgrade..oh and a big bumper sticker thats says "soot happens"...a friend of mine has a 99 F-250 C/C L/B SRW 7.3L PSD with the edge evolution and it does a great job adding power and smoke but he didn't increase fuel economy any..

If you have a 97 it really doesn't matter what chip you put on it. The OBS PSD's have smaller injectors than the 99+ and are only good for about 80 horse over stock. You'll get a little bit of a puff, but unless you do an injector upgrade you will not be "making cars disappear"

Agreed, but a custom tuned chip will get a little more smoke out than even a evolution on extreme.
