are 94-98 powerstroke engines the same?i have a 1997 with over 300,000 miles and would like to have a spare.

For the most part everything is the same. Some of the later just had some upgraded pieces, but the internals were the same.

The cali motors are a little different but for the most part they are all the same.

the hpop is a little different between the 95 and the 96 they made a little change.when you put a 17*hpop on a 94-95 it will drain back and loose pressure after sitting 1-2 days, on the 96-97 it will not drain back.waterpump is a little different.
