I'm new here, I have customer in need of a oil pickup tube for 96 F-350 7.3. Long story, short, they bought truck that someone replaced the fuel pump and dropped the rod in the engine and they didn't bother getting out or telling anyone and it poked a hole in the oil pickup tube along with damaging oil pump and timing cover. Ford has discontinued the part, International still offers it, but they want $720 for it. If someone happens to have a good used one available, I'll gladly buy it for a reasonable price.
International part# 1818167c3 (stamped on part)
Ford part# F4TZ6622A
They're long gone from Ford. I've been able to get 'em thru Navistar before, but were silly expensive. It was almost around a couple of hundred $$, IIRC. I'm more than happy to check, if interested.
So much for the notion of the tappet falling "harmlessly" into the oil pan. Pardon the hijack, but this does beg the question - for anyone who DOES drop the tappet, is there anything that can be done to avoid.... er.... this?
Surprising enough they bought the truck 6 months ago and have been driving it until it lost oil pressure. Engine still ran good filling reservoir. I might have to convince him to go the used engine route as had no luck finding a salvage screen and the hidden surprises this engine could arise.
