1999 V10 ZF5 to 1997 Powerstroke

Hey guys,

I have looked and looked but apparently my searching needs help as I am sure is a thread for this already.
But I have found a ZF5 Transmission out of a 1999 Superduty 4x4 with a V10 gasser. I am wondering if that tranny will fit in my 1997 Powerstroke Extended Cab F250 4x4 with a ZF5. This is not an Auto to Manual swap. Just a replacement.

Not too sure. I know the 460 ZF5 will but you might need to post up pics

The bell housing pattern may be different? Also the gear ratios may likely be different as they are different between the Zf5 behind a 460 and the 7.3 ZF5

A ZF5 from a 460 will "fit"; it will NOT bolt up without modifying the bolt pattern (which people have done; it's that close). PROBABLY the same for a tranny that came from behind a V10. Easy way to find out - if you read of tranny / engine swaps (without mods) between a V10 and a 460, that means the V10 bolt pattern is the same as a 460, and therefore DIFFERENT from the diesel.

Gear ratio difference has no impact on whether it can be done. A lot of people swap in a gasser ZF5 (with the above-mentioned mod) precisely because they prefer the ratios of the gasser version of the trans.

Kind of a surprise to hear they were still putting ZF5s in by the time the V10 came along; by then, they were putting ZF6s behind the diesels.
