WHAT KIND OF MOTOR OIL??

hey guys i got a 96 PSD with 175,000miles on it and im running rotella oil in it, i have been hearing alot of talk about synthetic oils are better just wondering if i should which and im also cerious what oil filters yall are running?

Im running rotella and I have been for over a year and I run wix filter and Ive never had a problem, synthetic oils from what I know only really do alot of benefit in cold weather but once the motor warms up its not any better.

here is an article on the synthetics that answers alot of ?'s about them the new CJ-4 oils are a step above conventional oils but with proper oil change intervals conventional does the job too just not as well

Rotella T 15W40 here. When it starts idling funky I know it is time to change. Always use Motorcraft filters. 251K+ miles and still running strong.

Absolutely Rotella T15/40. I have a '95 7.3 with 320k and have done every oil change myself on this engine since it was new, every 3k miles. I had to pull a head off over a broken glowplug that wouldn't come out and while inside I was happy to see the machined crosshatches still in the cyl. walls and absolutely zero ring groove! Why change the oil so often, because you won't have to replace injectors. I have never had to replace one yet. You could probably stretch 4-5k miles but I choose to just change the oil and spend the money that way Planning on staying away from the new junk diesels and running my old dependable 7.3 into the ground, if I don't go first.

Delo 400 and Motorcraft filters here. Change em out every 3K mils. (except on rare occasion, like when I drove across country, as I didn't feel like stopping just to change the oil)
