i was talkin to a older guy at the fuel pump today and he was tellin me that the only thing he changed on his truck was switching to synethic oil and he picked up about 4 mpg around town and on the interstate. what do ya"ll think about this. i'm not sure i believe it makes that much difference. also are ther any cons to synethic oil?? thanks guys

Always run synthetic in these engines... +4, I doubt it.

that guy is smoking something. you can't get a 4mpg gain on an OBS without doing some other aftermarket stuff.

+4 by using synthetic, I doubt it. As said before, he's smokin something. I wouldn't even expect to see a 1 or 2 mpg gain. (though I'm not a believer in synthetic myself)

Now, gaining 2-4 mpg by using a fuel additive to replace the lost lubricity of ULSD, yes. I believe it.

my mpg falls off with old / dirty oil so ho might have seen the improvement with fresh clean oil but not that much just because it was synthetic.
