Steering and Brakes

In the OBS F350s (mine is a 95), there was no hydroboost correct? Is there any sort of connection/common denominator between the steering and brakes such as common fluid, both vaccuum operated? I'm just trying to find the connection between a grinding sound both when I turn my wheels to the left (at a standstill) and when I press the brakes firmly (while rolling). Thanks!
