truck loudness

I have a question about the exhaust loudness of the obs trucks... i have a '96 f250 with the 3.5 inch stock exhaust except for a gutted cat and a muffler delete... my buddy has a 2002 super duty 7.3 and he just has a muffler delete and his truck is easily twice as loud as mine from idle to higher rpms... his has that blat at higher rpm's that mine doesnt.. so my question is... why is there such a difference? Could it be my pancake shaped downpipe? both trucks have chips and intakes

down pipe would be a good reason, also do you have the stock intake box on yours still? If you do, then do a DIY intake using the napa filter and it makes some difference too.

My OBS is just as loud if notlouder than most straight piped SDs. It has the 3" downpipe, to a short 4" section and then 5" from under the cab to the stacks.

Definitley need a new downpipe. The stock, flattened DP that came on the OBS trucks is POO. I'm working on getting a 3" DP for my truck, as I already have a 4" exhaust. I'm probably going to get one from Performance Truck Products Diamond Eye 3" Down-Pipe Kit 94-97 7.3L Ford (Aluminized) | Exhaust Components | 94-97 7.3L Power Stroke | Ford Power Stroke | Diesel Power | Performance Truck Products

My truck sounds good I think. But if you are going to put a down pipe in there a real pain in the a$$
