keyless entry
I have a 96 XLT with keyless entry. I would love to go out and start the truck, hit the lock button and let it warm up. Then hit unlock, hop in a go. Same thing when I stop for fuel or a drink to use fob to lock and unlock while letting the truck run.
The problem is if the ignition is on, then keyless entry seems to be off. I suspect there is a wire to the module that could be cut to fix this. Has anyone done this? |

How long do you hold down the unlock? I believe that if you hold for 3 secs or more, it might work. Just make sure you have a spare key before you try!

Well, I haven't tried that since it didn't lock. I guess I could manually lock it then use that for unlock.

Make suer the window is down or you have a spare key. Some vehicles' keeyless will not work at all when running.

As far as I know the only part of the keyless entry that will work while running is the keypad on the door, the fob's are locked out when in the run position

On my 2002 I can do what you are asking with no problem. Maybe replace the battery in the key pad. Might be getting weak.

Yup..didn't think of battery.....I know my keypad works, haven't tried fobs since the pad works...dunno on a '96, but if I push the lock button (with key in and engine running) on the drivers door inside, the locks lock, then the drivers door unlocks to prevent you from locking yourself out!
So, I just close the door and then hit the pad to lock the truck.

I do what you are talking about on a regular basis. With my 2002 running, I can exit the truck, and lock the doors using the remote key fob. The doors have to be shut before I attempt to lock them, if there is one open, and you do this, it will unlock again before you can shut the door. When I come back to the truck, the remote key fob easily unlocks the doors.

I've heard that if you lock your keys in your vehicle, and it has the keyless entry key fob, you can call home on your cell phone and have whoever is there hold your spare keys next to the phone while you hold your phone next to the vehicle and unlock your car/truck. One of my buddies wifes had to do it i think. It's supposed to work but what do you think? Anyone willing to test it, with the windows down of course?

That's a myth man, they work off of radio waves and they don't transmit over an audio line
