ECT Engine Coolant temperature...sensor is over by thermostat.
(and one I recently replaced just for laughs)
can't read with scan tool? is this right?
even when hot?
I've seen the -40,
but then witnessed it tracking the EOT yesterday once EOT hit 160F....idling in the drive.
this am, even the raw signal seems dead but I didn't let it heat up....
The PCM only monitors EOT. The coolant temp has a sender for the dash gauge only and a temp switch for the overheat warning light. There is no electrical interface with the PCM. The EOT and ECT will track together fairly close as the oil cooler uses coolant to cool the oil. Cheers!
You could put it in place of either the factory gauge sender or the factory warning light switch. If you're going to run an aftermarket gauge, you won't really need either of the factory functions.
There are sometimes extra ports in the water pump housing that might be OK for a temperature sender if it fits.
Another option is to buy a "T" fitting with barbed hose fittings to splice into a heater hose coming from the water pump, and install a sender in the third leg.
