97 f-350 general questions
Im looking to purchase a 97 f-350 crew cab within the week, and have some new guy qustions. I'm not new to diesels or rigs, but am a bit green to the powerstroke's.
-Anything faulty right off the bad? Example, KPD in a 12v. -Its got the E4OD recently rebuilt, any issues when they see some more power? -Any electrical quirks? -Finally, more than likely I'm going to be looking to make some smoke with it, my plans include full 4'' straight pipe, afe stg. 2 intake, and was undecided on programmer, and anyone know where to get the upgraded compressor wheel? Any advice is appreciated. |

Most OBS guys don't like the automatics. Some of the wiring seems odd to me. #8 cylinder.
straight pipe, intake, gauges, wildman tunes, wicked wheel may have been stock on a '97. |

E40D is weak, but ok. there are some upgrades available that make it bullet proof. iirc it holds up to moderate power upgrades. the other thing is the CPS (cam position sensor), its more of a problem on the 99-03's but can still come up in the 94.5 to 97. thats all i can think of off the bat.
straight pipe, DIY intake, guages, TW tunes (programmers dont work well with these). from there you could go stage 1 injectors, 1.0 or .85 turbo housing for faster spool, an d17* hpop. after that it never ends! oh and

I concur, E4OD is the weakest link.

Quirks are like:
the reverse light circuit tied in with the cruise, fuel bowl heater shorting out will kill the truck, underhood fuse box is not labeled at all, OBDII isn't always (don't think that is a problem for the '97s though) there are others I just can't think of them now. |

the truck is officially in my posession and heres the lowdown:
the tranny has $4500 in receipts to make it bulletproof, was done 20,000 KMS ago, but the truck sat for a year or so. its being a little stubborn with issues but hopefully that will be solved soon. I took a good look under it, that exhaust is really pancaked in there, especially close to the tranny. It will be gone soon. I've been reading a lot about the tony wildman tunes, where are they available and how much? Im not looking for a sled puller, im looking for a bit more power for pulling on the hills and giggles. |
