Fuel Filter

ok my truck started the other day and ran fine then it died and not it wont hit a lick. when cranking the tach reads rpm's and there is a fuel filter light on?? what does this mean? and where is the fuel filter located at?

It is under the shroud on top of the engine in the cannister. It prob. needs changing.
