disconnect the ecm power. remove all injector. or if it is done through the glow plugs then remove all glow plugs. remove the air filter. the engine needs to crank at 175 rpm 4 a minimum. Record your readings on paper.
do not remove the injectors, they test it through the glow plug hole. remove all glow plugs. Best done when engine is warm. If any are low squirt about a tblspn of oil into the glowplug hole and retest. if it comes up rings or scoring is the problem.
a better way to analyze the condition is leak down test and follow with a borescope inspection.
i would opt for the leak down like gmsmith says. its the simplest and best way. should be 350-400 psi across the board. anywhere in the 365-375 is good.
i just did a compression test on a 2000 7.3 and 6 of the cylinders were inbetween 420 and 450 but #2 was 500 and #8 was 600 .would this cause no start?does anyone know what the reason the two cylinders are so much higher?
