1997 red paint

I have a ton of clear coat gone on the 1997 OBS I just picked up. Is there any other options than putting a $4,000-$5,000 paint job on it? The hood and roof have basically no clear coat at all. The tailgate is pretty well gone also and then the body from door handles up is peeling. The interior is near perfect, I just believe it sat outside for all it's life. I see all these clean trucks on this site and I'm wondering is there very few with this problem? Thanks!

It happens. The hood and roof of my 95 are getting hazy in a few spots so a fresh paint job is in the future.

It's got 149k miles on it, and I didn't see a paint recalls for it. I guess I'll
Just leave it as is now since I just got it. Paint is definitely not cheap.

The truck was obviously repainted once in its life.

Red was Not clear coated until 99 on the f-series

if all it needs is JUST PAINT, you would be looking at about 3k
I hope you paid accordingly for the truck needing a paint job

Been quoted $3500-$5000. It was an original owner truck, so I'm
Not sure if it's been repainted or if I just don't know what clear coat problems looks like. But it's bubbled up in spots and peeled off on the roof and hood. Paid right over $8,000 after looking at some around the same mileage with better paint for $12,500.
