How to smoke lights

I finally got the spray window tint in order to smoke out my lights and was wondering how I should do this? Some people scuff the outside and others only clean the lights and spray them. Im unsure of my procedure and am looking for assistance.
Thank You
Mark

I've heard that scuffing the lights may cause even more loss of light through the lens. Some have said that they just cleaned them and it lasted for years. I think it is kind of up to your preference.

Just clean them.... You'll be fine. I've had my turn signals tinted on my mudding truck for 3 years of abuse!! They still look the same as the day I did them.

Apply really light coats. It's easy to keep adding more, but you can't take off any tint.

I did my tail lights and 3rd brake light. I lightly scuffed them with scotch bright first, then applied a plastic adhesion promoter, followed by 3 lights coats of VHT nightshades, and finished it off with 2 coats of laquer clear.

Here's a before and after:

Those look awesome Kurt!!!! Any pics of them installed on the truck??

I wanted the Recon tail lights.... But they're expensive!! Maybe I'll just tint my stock ones. Have you done your 3rd brake light?
