Swapping Mirrors on an OBS

[97Beast]

I love just about everything about my 97 powersroke except my little power mirrors. These mirrors are just too small for my taste and I would like to have some more visibility.
So want to swap out my stock power mirrors with the classic 2 arm manual mirrors, and then on top of that I want to put a larger mirror head on the 2 arm manual mirrors and it will look something like this...








Now my only predicament is installing these mirrors!

Has anyone changed out their power mirrors to replace them with the 2 arm manual mirrors?
When I drill into my door where the bottom arm of the mirror is, will there be a pre marked area in the door where two holes for the mirrors could be drilled?

Any advice or opinions will help, and it would be great if anyone on here has done such a conversion!

Well I converted from the big swing out town mirrors which is from the mirror that you want to put on the 2 arm setup like above, there were no premarked holes when I did mine I just have to kind of get the mirror set up right where I wanted it and then drill the holes

Well actually if you look at the pics I am going to put the 2 arms just as you did but just with the bigger head on it.

Also when I put these mirrors on will I have to worry about the middle hole in the door where the wiring came out or will that just be covered up by my new mirrors?

OH sorry I must have worded that bad I meant just the mirror part from teh big tow mirrors joined with the 2 arm setup and and also the part where the wiring comes out will be all covered up by the 2 arm assembly

Cool, thats a big relief becuase I did not want to have fill in those holes.

I think the mirrors will turn out great with all that extra visiblity, and i think those big mirror heads look pretty cool!

97beast, I have the same problem.. I have a 97' F350 with the exact mirrors you have on your truck. It makes our trucks looks a little funny because of their size and we have F150 mirrors. In the next few months i plan on replacing them with the mirrors that are on matt's trucks. Take care.

I might be willing to trade. do you have any pictures? the mirrors on your truck the 4 point style, tripod mirror? or the stainless steel door mirror?

ive got a question,how do you get the small plastic mirriors off,i took the bolts out,but there seems to be something still holding them on,do you have to take the door panel off or something? i think this swap will look good,will the big headed mirriors go on easily or it it a fabricating type job?

yes, I have to take the door panel off and they actually bolt through the outside sheet metal and onto the inside metal frame of the door. Its pretty easy to work on...I installed another small black mirror in about 15mins (I busted it off on the trail)
