max tire size 96 dually
Does anyone know the biggest size tire that will fit on an OBS 2x4 dually? It has 215/85r16 right now. It'd like to go with at least a 235/85r16. I think this is the size that 99 and up dually come with. Can I fit 235s or bigger without much rubbing?

I have a 96 dually and the 235/85/16 is the stock size tire according to the door sticker

That's interesting. My door sticker calls for the 215/85/16. My truck is regular cab. I'm not sure why they would be different. Maybe factory option or something. I just don't like the small tires, i'd like something to fill out the fender wells a little more.
Thanks for the reply CSXPaid |

After a little research online i came up with the following:
215/85/r16(stock) = 30.4" x 8.5" 235/85/r16 = 31.7" x 9.3" 265/75/r16 = 31.6" x 10.4" Not much different in hieghts between 235 and 265. Only width. Does anyone know if 265/75/r16 will fit on a 2wc dually? Without spacers? |

Go with the 235's. They look way better and will fit, no problem. I would not go any wider than that.

I also have a 96 dually, just bought it about a month ago. It has 235's on it and I have no problems at all with tire size. I'm curious to know if your truck has wind noise by the dash, drivers side? Seems to be excessive but I can't find a problem. My truck engine is pretty much stock, is yours? I plan to pull a 33' fifth wheel, 11,500 lbs. Thinking of adding a Banks Git Kit and gauges.

My truck does have some wind noise. it's coming from the drivers side vent window. it also leaks a little when it rains. I guess the seal is bad. As for the engine; the dude who bought the truck originally(i,m 3rd owner) put an intercooler, exhaust, chip, and said he modified the turbo..? The guy I bought from said the chip burnt up the computer so it's(the chip) still sitting in the glovebox.
You will have no problem with 11,500lbs. |
