OBS third brake light

Ford and LMC truck both stopped manufacturing the stock third brake light for the OBS trucks and I need to replace mine and don't like the aftermarket LED ones. Will the 99+ third brake lights work on these OBS trucks?

97 F250 4x4 AUTO
AFE Stage 2 Intake/ Proguard 7
Trans, Boost, EGT gauges
4" turbo back exhaust to 5" tip
Turbo Timer

sorry to bring up a slightly stale/old thread but my 3rd brake light housing melted on the inside the bulbs obviously over heated and ive searched every junkyard around every bronco and F series truck and they all look the same as mine very melted and not even worth paying money for junkyard prices for those housings evin in terrible condition is outrageous.

Are the LED 3rd brakelights worth trying?

Curious as well cause I looked on LMC and they don't carry the cargo lamps W/high mount stop light.

They have the bulbs but not the housings and mine is hazed over as well as the reflector somehow got jacked up and it wont come out of the truck, I have decided just to bust it out but id rather have a replacement to go in.

Are the LED units even worth it cause I don't want used.

I understand this thread is almost a year stale but didn't see the need to start a new one and clutter the board.

I've had no ill effects from my LED replacement from eBay just needs some red transparent Vht spray paint down the center for a more stock look and chrome scuff up and paint black and violá!

Which one did you buy if you remember? Also is it possible to pull the outer lens off and vht the inner side versus the outer and it getting chalky and nasty.

All I know is that it was around 40 bucks I think and had the same connector as the truck so now wiring to figure out mine is clear lense with chrome bezel very nice bright illumination even for the cargo light and doesn't get hot and melt like the stock one did. PO used high wattage bulbs I guess. As far as getting the lens off I remember looking how to remove but never got that far so never painted bezel black or Vht red over the red LEDs. The reason I want to is I saw a picture of a LED 3rd light done like that and looked really close to a replacement better than factory.
